Hockey India Launches National Women's Hockey League 2024-2025

In a historic move, Hockey India has announced the introduction of the National Women's Hockey League 2024-2025, signaling a significant advancement in India's sporting landscape. The league, designed to showcase the prowess of female athletes, is structured into two phases, with the inaugural phase scheduled to be held in Ranchi, Jharkhand, from April 30 to May 9.

All matches of the opening phase will unfold at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium, a venue renowned for hosting prestigious events like the FIH Olympic Qualifiers and the Women's Asian Champions Trophy.

The National Women's Hockey League stands as a pioneering initiative in India, poised to provide a thrilling platform for emerging talent while elevating the status of women's hockey nationwide. The competition will witness intense clashes among the top state teams that secured top-eight finishes at the esteemed 14th Hockey India Senior Women's National Championships.

Following the conclusion of the Senior Women's National Championship, the top eight state teams have secured their spots in the inaugural season of the National Women's Hockey League. Teams such as Hockey Haryana, Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Jharkhand, and others have earned their positions through remarkable performances and unwavering dedication to the sport.

Remarkably, the league extends its reach to young talents, allowing players under the age of 21 to participate. This inclusive approach underscores Hockey India's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering grassroots development.

The National Women's Hockey League not only promises to raise the bar for women's hockey but also aims to inspire future generations of athletes nationwide. Through this initiative, Hockey India reaffirms its dedication to promoting gender equality in sports and creating avenues for women to excel in hockey.

Moreover, the league is set to serve as a crucial platform for talent scouting, offering selectors the opportunity to identify and nurture prospects for upcoming international competitions.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the league, Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey stated, "The National Women's Hockey League marks a monumental moment for Indian hockey, especially for our women athletes. This league underscores our steadfast commitment to women's sports and will accelerate the growth and development of women's hockey in the country."

Echoing similar sentiments, Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh emphasized the league's significance in advancing women's hockey, asserting, “The National Women's Hockey League is a game-changer for Indian hockey, particularly for our women players. This league reflects our unwavering dedication to women's sports and will propel the growth and development of women's hockey across the nation.”
