In a recent operation, Italian law enforcement detained three Palestinians residing in l'Aquila, central Italy, suspected of orchestrating attacks in an undisclosed country. The arrested individuals had allegedly established a cell associated with the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a group linked to Fatah and recognized as a terrorist organization by Israel, the European Union, and the United States.
Charged with criminal conspiracy for terrorism or subversion of the democratic order, the suspects face potential jail terms of up to 15 years. According to police statements, the trio engaged in proselytism and propaganda activities while planning various attacks, including suicide missions, against both civilian and military targets on foreign soil.
One of the detainees is reportedly wanted by Israel, currently engaged in conflict with the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Italy is examining an extradition request for this individual. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi lauded the arrest, emphasizing Italy's perpetual vigilance against extremism and radicalization.
There has been no immediate response from the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades regarding the arrests.
